the beginning of kitchen reno.

heyo!
well, my kitchen is getting ripped apart.
on the one hand, it's super annoying. on the other hand, i refuse to complain. i'm getting a new kitchen.
when we moved into this house, i did not want the kitchen to be done. i'm not the kind of person that likes to move into things that are already done for me...i want to design it myself. and by that i mean, i want nothing to do with the numbers and measurements, just the pretty things.
before

(this is staying, as it is original to the house)

(this is where our giant, cluttered desk used to be)

teensy tiny bathroom will stay teensy tiny, but shall be updated.

and we're definitely on a budget.
luckily subway tile is cheap.

we went to lowes and you better believe i walked straight to the back for the scratch and dent section.
found a fridge and an oven on clearance.
i really think that's how God tells me he loves me sometimes...red stickers, deals, dumpster dives. something about growing up poor.
i don't know how else to shop. it pains me to pay full price for anything.

so we're ripping it all out.
i am kitchenless. blaa blaa blaa. again, want to complain about scrounging around for food, but really can't since i'm getting a new kitchen. of course, it's only been a couple days without an oven.give me a couple more weeks and we'll see how i'm doing.  currently we're living in the attic.

until then. think white kitchen, subway tile, butcher block thoughts.

(my poor chalkboard. i am most sad about losing this.)

i'll give you some after pics in about 5 weeks!

  5. I can't wait to see after pictures! I'm working on trying to convince my husband we should at least update our kitchen. Hasn't been updated since the 90's and it could do with a little sprucing up. But when your husbands philosophy is "if it's functional, then why change it?", you don't win very often...

  6. Your comment made me laugh because I can so identify with it. I often tell my girlfriends that when I find a deal on something I need I'm pretty sure it's straight from Jesus = he knows how I operate. And, subway tile is my favorite. Classic and pretty. Can't wait to see how it turns out :)

  7. Agh!!! I am so excited for you! About looking for the deals, discounts,etc... Im the same way. In case, just to prove it I will tell you that our kitchen reno is also in the talks. After 10 years of living in this 1860 home with no counter space this has been a long time coming. But we'll be doing ours with hand-me-down cabinets from my inlaws. They renovated their kitchen over the summer(GORGEOUS!) and we'll be tackling the job in our kitchen with their old(but perfectly fine) cabinetry. God is good! I
I cant wait to see how this turns out:)

  10. Totally worth it! We redid our floors over the summer and how could I complain about an upgrade? So thankful we could do it!

  11. It's gonna be great! So, I have a question... There are posts you have written about God, the spiritual ones, and they have been so good. I want to go back and share them with some friends, but I don't know what to search in your search engine. I've tried a few words/phrases, but it's not coming up. Didn't you used to have a list of terms that linked up to different topics on your blog? Hard to know which terms you used to label your posts, ya know? You are an amazing person, you have amazing insight... Help me read it all again! :) thanks so much!

  13. We just finished our kitchen update... no ripping down walls as our house is teeny tiny to begin with, but we did dark stained butcher block, white cabinets, stainless pulls, farmhouse sink and were debating about subway tile vs. white penny tile... and there is a killer deal on overstock for that! Good luck... no kitchen can get brutal with 3 kiddos!
