this year for lila's birthday, i wanted to plan a party as usual...but.
my little sister is getting married. nato's birthday, our anniversary, a trip out of town, wedding showers and why is there an explosion of crazy happening in september? why am i so busy? does algebra have any importance? and am i still saved?
(silent cry)
ugh.
point is, i'm overwhelmed and we took lila to red robin last night. judge me. it was fun and they have gluten free buns, plus they tie a balloon around your kid's wrist. over and over again. even when they lose it to the ceiling 200 times. plus there's a 20 minute drive home. that means children buckled in and music loud enough to muffle their fighting.
note: lila ate NONE of her burger and all of her fries. great! top that off with a cupcake and send you to bed. it's your birthday and i'm too tired to make you eat stuff.
(can we make a print that say that?)
anyway, last week i was thinking, i don't need to make a big fuss of a party for lila. her buddies are at her school... i'll just tag along to her school day.
so they let me take the last 30 minutes of class to throw her a party.
buddies from class+watercolors+gluten free & dairy free cupcakes (that were INSANE)= lila wins the lottery! grateful and happy over the tiniest things. gah, i want to be lila. give me that kind of heart, Lord.
for their craft, i traced letters of their first name with crayon and colored it in, then let them paint over it. (surprise! the paint won't stick to wax.) i will get some frames and frame their art. if the spirit leads...
then sent them home with some notebooks and markers so parents could experience their own couches in technicolor. you're welcome. my penance is the framed art.
and just as quick as the party started, it was over.
kind of like babies. growing up.
omg. deep thoughts and let's all cry together.
then console ourselves with a margarita?
Praise Him.
Yes, Lord, give me that kind of heart!
ReplyDeleteLOVE her smile.
i like the t-shirt idea...I'm not a Mom, but I think it's a winner. I'm glad she has a huge smile on her face :) Happy Birthday Sweet Girl!
ReplyDeleteThis is so adorable - what a darling little one! And such a special birthday :)
ReplyDeleteLove your writing. You crack me up.
ReplyDeleteAre you gluten free/dairy free? My child was recently diagnosed with several allergies, including wheat and dairy and I would seriously love any suggestions. I'm so thankful to know what they are, but it's also very overwhelming.
Well done. It's the little things, mostly.
ReplyDeletehow fantastic! I love how you simplify yet do it in style! :) your sweet girl loved every minute of it! how incredibly thoughtful!
ReplyDeletethis is my favorite party of all time.
ReplyDeletei also want to be lila.
LOVE Y'ALL. xo
praying you enjoy your crazy september.
I don't think Lila's smile could get any bigger. I'd say her party was a hit. Great job mama.
ReplyDeleteAh, I love your humor in the midst of depth.. I'm inspired toward both in reading your posts.. And giving yourself grace even though you feel guilt.. Such a simple great idea for a birthday or any craft! PS. I have 2 1/2 yr old Lila..I want to be her too..
ReplyDeleteAnd your blog is my favorite. I think we could be great friends if we ever met. And if it's any consolation, I let my son invite two friends over for his 3rd birthday this summer and two or more of them were fighting the whole time. I swore off parties. Until next year, of course, when I forget how horrible it was and let him invite the same two friends over.
ReplyDeleteThis post is perfect. The kids buckled in for 20 min with music on so you can't hear the fighting. Perfect. Crazy cupcakes and antics for birthdays. Perfect. A margarita to console yourself when you think of how fast the babies are growing up. Perfect. Love the little party idea and the fun of making birthdays special with little things. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteShe is so cute!
ReplyDeletetoo stinkin' cute
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. Your blog seriously just makes my day. So thankful for your walk with the Lord and humor... I just told my husband that I feel like we're friends and he told me I was weird. Whatev.
ReplyDeleteYou are hilarious! Thanks for the laugh(and great idea!).
ReplyDeleteYou kill me with your "if the Spirit leads.." and "Praise Him". This looks like the best party EVER. Your girl loved it, she ate fries, and BAM. Mom of the Year Award.
ReplyDeleteYou are seriously hilarious. I love it! You write the way I think in my head. Happy Birthday Lila!

ReplyDeleteWoot! Woot! GF, DF in da house! Seriously, this is kinda how we do birthdays, what with half of us being autistic and the other half too tired and she'll shocked to pull a party off. Love her heart.
ReplyDeleteSounds perfectly un-lame to me! I love that Lila girl! XOXO
ReplyDeleteLOVE the new blog look!! It is absolutely and completely ridic that Lila is five, I am pretty sure you must be off on your math there because I just can't believe it! She really is the picture of joy, and I think that what you did for her party was perfect, not lame!! Her face snarfing that delicious cupcake in tells all. Hope to see you around somewhere soon!!
ReplyDeleteOh Jamie this post made me cry!! She is so perfect! I just love your heart and so glad that there is someone else in this world that talks as I do. Let's have a margarita and cry together, shall we?? I'm in Wichita. It's a short drive LOL, but seriously.
