modest monday. mond-heyyyyy!

i remember being in youth group and hearing the "how far is too far" talk.
like, is making out bad? or what is actually considered second base? i'm not making out with people so i'm not sure what the bases are... someone just tell me so i don't accidentally hit a base.

there's nothing like growing up an unattractive late bloomer with braces and a few missing teeth to really build a well-rounded personality and keep you from smooching it up. a cheerleader might take you under her wing and let you come to parties with her based solely on your ability to tell jokes and make fun of stuff. that happened to me.

at these parties, i saw people sneaking into other rooms. that were dark! and i would think. they needed a plan. i would yell silently, if only you had planned this out!
seriously, i would think that. which isn't always the truth but it's some of it.

the truth is,  if you don't have a plan beforehand, you're more likely to fail.
in fact, planning to do the right thing ahead of time is quite helpful. with that said, God wants your heart  first...not your behavior.  and when He gets your heart, that will have implications on your behavior and your decisions. and on your parenting. and your friendships. and it will have implications even on your clothes.

see how i did that? i want to talk about clothes now. (transition fail).
you were like, where is she going with this? i was scared i wouldn't get to the point either. but we made it. phew.

so that's why it's good to talk about swimsuits in the winter.

modesty will look different on everyone and i don't know what it looks like for you. but asking God now to change our hearts to find approval in Him and not how good people think our bodies look in that sweet american flag G-string is a great plan. otherwise, in the moment, we'll be like...oh who cares, this triangle top has the cutest piece of a flower on it and i must have it! i love that it costs me $60 for .02 inches of fabric!

this will also give you time to save your monies, as these are a touch pricey. but, hey, you have 4 months! sell some crap in your basement or something. and when you sign up, they give you $15! so there's a start.

with that said. i am IN LOVE with these swimsuits that are both adorable and flattering from modcloth. polka dots fo-eva.

you will freak out over their dresses too. omg.

you can be modest and cute this summer, ladies!

i'm also wanting to do a "modest monday" link up where you guys show your cute and modest outfits. i think it could be inspiring. will you participate? fashion inspiration from women who care about modesty. pray.about.it.
let's do it next monday.
#modestmonday if you participate via instagram
wait, that hashtag is taken and is not very modest. let's do: turtlenecks of the heart TUESDAY.
#turtlenecksoftheheart because it's funnier anyway. see you tuesday, players.

  1. i'm all about modesty living in my part of the earth... my shoulders, chest, and knees are covered at all times. am i fashionable you ask?... well, that is questionable. when i tried my bathing suit on for my mom she said it looked like a grandma suit. thanks, mom.

  5. Oh my, I certainly laughed out loud at this. My husband and I always say "make good decisions!" (in lieu of "you should have a plan"). It's funny, but honest.
I love these bathing suits, but I am seriously overcoming how they look on shorter people? Although, they can't look much worse then my "two piece with a tank top" look right?
    Touche.

  7. I'm going to plug the Carve suits sold at Title Nine--they are tankinis with excellent coverage and very durable for those of us who like to PLAY in the water! A couple of mine are a few years old and they get a LOT of action every summer--hold up extremely well.

  9. I'm actually pretty pumped about the modesty Monday.

I also remember thinking the same thing in church. I didn't even know really what making out was so how I was suppose to know what it was or not. The list goes on. I think that is why I am going to sit down with our children when we have them and just stop being vague.

  12. These are awesome options. Not at all to take away from this particular company, but target offers a little less pricey version that is currently on clearance. I've got one in black and silver and they are my go to suits!

They come with a strap that attatches on the front sides of the suit. I'm on the smaller side up top and these are modest and feminine. (Translation: I dont look like an ironing board-I keep the tiny bit of curve I have) My FAV suits!

  14. mod cloth is my best friend now that i moved to hawaii where i have no friends :)
i got a janzen version of those polka dots up top since i need it to be good quality while i wear it every day. i gotta tell you, you get a one piece that really fits and holds in any naughty wiggliness, that thing is NOT coming off all day. ALSO, be sure not to let anyone (especially a husband) witness the very unladylike dance that it takes to get into that thing...NOT cute.
i like your style jami nato
    id participate in #turtlenecksoftheheart tuesday
i don't really consider myself a big modesty advocate, but i think i am just sorta modest by default...i guess. but i do have to say that hawaii is pretty laid back....theres alot of skin showing around here and its funny how it doesn't really seem that provocative to me...it's just hot and sweaty all the time.

    1. true. i think wherever you are and whatever you do just needs to submit to Lordship. i know that will totally look different in certain locations. i wish i was in hawaii being awesome at playing in the sunshine. i hope you are doing well.

  18. "And Daniel purposed in his heart..."

Enjoyed this post, Jami, as I have every post since I first met you a month ago. :)

When I was younger, I used to rely on my logic to figure out what was modest. That logic consisted of comparing myself to what others around me were doing. Flawed logic. (choosing fabric that was .05 inches instead .02 inches was good enough, eh???) Now I ask the perfect Counselor. Except for when I don't. But when I do, I get a perfect answer every time. It's perfectly planned modesty!

  21. So, I have a modcloth suit I bought last summer and I lubs it with all my modest loving heart. It's cute, flattering and things don't fall out of it while I'm wrestling with my four boys at the community pool. Win-win-win.
Btdubs, I went with the Bathing Beauty one piece in "Needlepoint".
