let's get real...i'm wearing this outfit a lot.
i will say, i am not a fashion blogger. even writing that just made me laugh. duh, i'm not a fashion blogger. nor is that my jam. but what i do like is digging through my closet and finding things that i can make work for the current trends.
sometimes i buy things that are trendy. but if they're on trend, i won't pay a lot of money for it. like leopard shoes. honestly, these will go out of style. but at $8, i say why not. even if i wear them for 4 months, that's worth it.
so here's some things worth buying/searching for in your closet in 2013. if you're a mom.
black skinny jeans.
boyfriend jeans.
a blazer.
a loose/silky blouse.
coral. people say pantone was the color of the year, i say it's coral.
stripes.
polka dots.
colored belts.
colored pants.
gold.
layering.
modesty. it never goes out of style.
here i am looking sort of like an ass modeling this stuff, but go with it. it's called dress up for mom's. everyone should take some time and go through their closets and play dress up. see what works. see what makes you look like nerd-face.
so here's what i slapped together.
boyfriend jeans with heels. yes, i like you and will be your girlfriend. i'm casual here, but kind of dressy. this is like, i look like i didn't try hard on this outfit but i actually went out on a limb. these are leopard shoes for heaven's sake.
oh hey, i changed my shoe and it changed my look. cray.
same thing with the jacket. one says dressy and one says casual.
i've had this denim jacket for 8 years. i bought it in spain and will keep it forever. do not try and steal it from me/tell me it's ugly. no.
i didn't have accessories such as purses or a real photographer, as i'm not a legit fashion blogger. but you'll forgive me for this. timer did me right/wrong.these belts are from forever 21 for $5. get the minty one. it will freshen your outfit up. pun intended!
black skinny jeans are my fave. they class up any outfit up. the belt is like saying, hey, i'm a mom and i'm trying to do something more than casual here.
and polka dots say, i'm awesome.
removing the belt says, i have a touch of gas but does that mean i can' look cute? no. pffffffff.

gold shoes are from jcrew. christmas gift from my man. uthankyou, honey.
polka dot button up from shade clothing.
can you tell i love these pants from madewell? $15 score. they go with e'rthing just like jeans.
the blazer. this was on sale at forever 21 for $7. again, definitely worth trying for that amount of money.
and hey, look...belts at your actual waist are back in.
this top is also from forever 21 but it's actually a dress. a dress that was too short. no problem, promiscuous dress! this is like a mentos commercial and i'm going to make you work for me!
does it look like i'm an old lady smoker or that i'm fancy. i don't know but i'm ok with either.
what are my kids doing while i'm playing dress up?
trying to fit into small buckets.
what? my room is not covered in clothes and shoes. i'm very tidy and i'm a good mother. trust.
lila was lathering lipstick on her face while playing dress up with me. good times.
and just for fun. to make your eyes hurt a little...
you can't stop staring.
you're welcome.
i love the last part... i mean, what ELSE are your kids supposed to be doing while you're playing dress up, right? adorable.
ReplyDeleteawesome! you look great...modesty looks so much better than the other option out there...you do have a great style! :) you are so pretty!
ReplyDeletei've never seen you wear finger polish in mah life. and i'm your favorite sister. just saying.
ReplyDeletei know. i'm getting crazy.
DeleteWell, shoot, now I have to get gold flats! Too cute. Did you get the mint belt at F21 recently? My waist has reappeared now that my second baby is a year old...might be time for a cute belt. :)
ReplyDeleteyes, they currently have EVERY color in the universe.
DeleteYou MUST know that I am cracking up because that is the EXACT same thing I said when I bought gold nail polish!!!! I wore it once, and then I could not handle it on myself anymore because that is what I kept saying. Other people look hip...me, not so much. I cannot even tell you how much I love that you said that!
ReplyDeleteconfidence is Key! the more i wear it, the more i feel like a really fancy old lady who smokes. lol
Deletei looked at the flashing pictures at the bottom for about 15 times... then i read the line below. and it's true, i couldn't stop staring! my favorite part about your humor is when i don't expect it. i lol-ed. lol-ed, who says that?
ReplyDeletei use lol-ed often. even in real life conversations. it's a gift for others to hear inter web terms in everyday face to face conversation. do it.
DeleteThis is just great! I've been looking for a navy blazer since forever. You're modest, but not stuffy. It CAN be done! :)
ReplyDeleteforever 21 has a cute navy blazer for $10 in the sale section. so so so cute.
Deleteholy cow, you're funny. and true, i couldn't stop staring. i like that lila is on trend with the polka dots, coral and fashionable heels. now to just lose some lbs to fit into those darn skinny jeans.
ReplyDeleteold lady smoker??? hahaha!
ReplyDeleteyou are just the cutest...i totally think you are a fashion blogger! i love how you put things together.
xo
at least i'm a confident old lady smoker.
DeleteTo quote this stylin' bloggy chick I know, "totes adorbs."
ReplyDeleteYou go girl. At this point I think black skinnies are my love language. People probably think their the only pants I own.
ReplyDeleteI love how Lila matches you.
Thanks for the inspiration...fashion blogger I think yes.
You are a hoot! Thanks for the tips, seriously, Thanks.... : )
ReplyDeleteyou are so cool beans.
ReplyDeletethis morning my roommates asked me why i was laughing and i told them i was reading your blog. cool story? not really but just felt like sharing.
thanks for this blog post. inspired me to be more creative with my outfits.
You look GREAT in these pictures. I'm afraid to say thin b/c then people get all funky and think I'm promoting something all wrong?!! so let's go with GREAT. :) Love the outfit with the mint belt, polka dots and leopard shoes!!!
ReplyDeleteI had a conversation with my 22 year-old step-daughter about how I thought I was past the age of being allowed to shop at Forever 21. She disagreed. I was surprised of what cute stuff I found and didn't feel like I was trying to look 21 when wearing them. I am still however in favor of someone creating a Forever 34 store. Because really, that's something a mom like me could totally get behind. Love your outfit choices!
ReplyDeletethe worst is when you come out of the dressing room and you're wearing what the 14 year old is wearing next to you. LOL. it's happened. but what can you do. (you can put that outfit back!) but seriously, i said the same thing the other day...but they cater to so many age groups. confidence is key!
DeleteThe clothes look awesome on you! I might say you are looking great after 3 kiddos! You are also a dork. I love it!
ReplyDeletehahaha i love it! i have most of those pieces, whew. you should eat a cookie as a reward for all the work that went into this post. lookin good momma.
ReplyDeletedon't you worry. i ate a cookie while shooting.
DeleteLove the gif.
ReplyDeleteAnd all the polka dots!
I don't know what you are saying...you and Lila are great fashion bloggers!
you're so sweet. i'll be waiting for your fashion post???
DeleteI am sooo into polka dots and the color mint right now - love all your fashion tips:) And the best part was the "behind-the-scenes" shots you shared at the end:)
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh. the graphic at the end is amazeballs.
ReplyDeletei did it especially for you.
DeleteLove the boyfriend jeans with heels, one of my favorite way to wear them! All the outfits are adorable!
ReplyDeleteYOU. are my favorite and my best.
ReplyDeleteOk, seriously love all your outfits....especially with the coral jeans! I appreciate your effort to prove that it is possible to be stylish AND modest. I've done a few posts on my teaching blog where I posted some pics of my outfits to inspire other teachers that we don't have to wear the sweaters our grade school teachers wore to be modest and appropriate for school!
ReplyDeleteLeanne
Mrs. Prince & Co.
it's so true!! i can't imagine what outfits you get to see everyday. LOL
DeleteHoly moly. LOVE. ...and can't stop laughing.
ReplyDeleteVery nice.....I need to do the same and find some real good bargains too!
ReplyDeleteok-- so i'm not usually a commenter... but this had me laughing out loud. especially the picture with lila in a bucket. that's so my life right now.
ReplyDeleteYou're right--I couldn't stop staring at your haut ensemb!
ReplyDeleteyou're great.
ReplyDeleteJami. I laugh literally out loud (and then my husband looks at me like "what is wrong with you weirdo") every time I read your blog. So thanks for that! And for the mama style tips, I definitely need them.
ReplyDeleteYou are the best. I can always count on a smile or a laugh over here when I need one. Have a great weekend, hot mama.
ReplyDeleteFor someone who apparently wears lots of yoga pants and hoodies, I think you pulled off the stylish chic J.Crew look quite well! Love the blazer!
ReplyDeletelol, I'm in awe of every mom who can wear heels. I couldn't wear them before I had babies and now it's even worse. I'm too afraid to impale someone (like myself) or trip on a toy and go flying down the stairs. I have an active imagination. But seriously heels hurt my feet so flats do me right ;)
ReplyDeletebtw you are too cute even in yoga pants.
do you have wedges??
DeleteYou make me laugh and cry. And inspire me. It's cray.
ReplyDeleteTammy
this is awesome! love it!
ReplyDeleteWow Jami, you have mad camera skills (yo). :) totally fashion blogger worthy. And the outfits were very cute as well.
ReplyDeleteGREAT post. LOVE it!!! And that jacket lila's wearing?! So MJ. Love it.
ReplyDeletei know, right? i saw kind of a more adult looking one at forever 21 and wanted to by it but it was $24. i mean, way too expensive. LOL. is it funny that that really does sound expensive to me?
DeleteFun! Love it! I have too many clotehs, but always end up wearing the same thing over and over...I need to try and be more fun, thanks for the encouragement!
ReplyDeleteLOVE all those outfits! I need to get a pair of colored jeans ASAP..but I kind of want to lose all my baby weight first because what's the point in buying pants that will (hopefully) be too big in a few more months?? So for now I'll stick with my trusty yoga pants. :) Thanks for the tips!
ReplyDeletesuch a fox! love all of your ensembles!
ReplyDeleteOh my word- you are too funny! And a very good fashion blogger, I might add!
ReplyDeleteOh my word- you are too funny! And a very good fashion blogger, I might add!
ReplyDeleteThis post is great, and I really love your fashion sense! I would never have put any of those looks together, but they all look great!!
ReplyDeleteI really couldn't stop staring... just kidding!
ReplyDeleteoh girl, so much love. i need polkadots in my life. i feel like i'm not perky enough for them, but maybe that's the point.
ReplyDeleteI have grown to LOVE your fashion + modesty posts, so thanks for doing them! I found colored & polka dotted pants at Old Navy for $8.50 this week and thought I should pass that on. Pray about it.
ReplyDelete(My only problem is deciding which -one- pair to keep :)
I really like you, okay?
ReplyDeleteYou might be my fashion doppelganger. Or something.
too funny!
ReplyDeleteloved your outfits. very smart.chic.cool.
the minty belt was my favorite:). loved that outfit!
xx
Thank you for all the fantastic modest clothing options and resources. I am a 26 year old high school teacher who does not look good in a denim jumper! I have a heckofa time finding cute clothes for school that don't show all the "bells and whistles". I appreciate it!
