bacon. cheddar. apples. BCA sandwich!

when i ate this sandwich, i decided that i liked bacon. for reals. that happened.

so this isn't rocket science, which is why it's awesome. it's really quick and really easy and everyone will really love it. pair it with broccoli cheddar soup or this amazing tomato soup if you feel so inclined.

the bacon, cheddar, apple sandwich
or the BCA sandwich if you will. and i think you will.

here's what you need:
2 pieces of hearty sandwich bread (learn to make your own here)

3 slices cooked bacon

6-8 slices caramelized apple slices (recipe following)
½ cup freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese (shredded melts faster)
softened butter to spread on bread

now here's what you do to caramelize apples:
grab 2 medium cooking apples, that are peeled, cored and sliced into ½-inch
(Cooking apples are firm and keep their shape well. They can be granny smith or golden delicious.)
Melt 1 TBSP butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Swirl to coat pan evenly. Add apple slices; sauté for 5 minutes to become softened.
(josephine turns the apples with chopsticks. way to be asian!)

Sprinkle 2 TBSP brown sugar on the apples and stir and coat the apples evenly.
Cook for about another 5 minutes, or until the apple slices are nicely browned and caramelized.

then back to the sandy-wich.
Arrange the caramelized apple slices on one piece of bread, top with the cooked bacon slices and then shredded cheddar cheese.

then you guessed it, Top with the remaining piece of bread! Spread the softened butter on top. Bake at 425F for about 6 minutes, or until the cheese if melted and the top is golden and your mouth is watering profusely. give it a little smash for good measure.

if you have leftover apples, make dessert. caramelize the apples and top with ice cream!

  8. yo- we all got a day off from school today due to an ice storm. So I decided to make a special brunch including homemade waffles, eggs and bacon(yes, I know...our hearts are on the line but whatever). Anyhoo, I made bacon in the oven for the 1st time ever and will NEVER make it on the stove top again. It was mess free(line a cookie sheet with tin foil) and lay the bacon down, bake it for 25 min on 375 and it was darn.bacon Ive ever had. It was crispy, no mess, and I could focus on the other parts of our meal. A total success in my book.
I'll have to try these sandwiches for the about a week once our hearts start beating normally again:)

  9. Pretty much everything I love, between two pieces of bread (which I also love -- duh). Thanks for sharing this goodness!
