fallish day-korr. or decor.

gather 'round little ladies...it's time to talk fall day-Korr. decor, get it? ok, i'll stop with twang. but you know i'm from texas right? i cay'nt help it. ok seriously, that was the last one.

anyway, i decided to cover an orange pumpkin with some burlap. it was so bright...like super fake orange. which is what you get when you buy from the dollar store, but i knew i could crafternoon it. i think it's cute. but you know, it would have just been as cute spray painted white or black. or chalkboard paint. but ya, you're right...it would be hard to write on.

and there she sits.

that giant ball jar is at target for $14. i saw it and had to have it in my cart ASAP and nato was like...wow, another ball jar...
and i was like
ya, i know...but BIGGER. duh.
Photobucket

yes, we've already had a couple of fires. it's been kind of cold at night. and also we just couldn't wait.
Photobucket

some leaf bunting for your A's. that's right, i kind of cussed there.

this little ditty is the table centerpiece. i made nato collect acorns with me when we were on a walk. what i learned from that experience is that he's a poor acorn collector. i think my excitement helped me collect about 8 times as much as he did. actually, now that i think about it, he probably just watched me gather acorns while he played on his phone. hmmmmm.

and here is a little table idea for those soup nights. or thanksgiving. or just when you have some potatoes that are about to be rotten and you feel bad wasting them? i stuck a plant-namer-thing in them and wrote names with dry erase markers. actually, i wrote lila's name with a permanent marker, so that will forever be here place saver. whoops. but odds are you don't have these plant markers, so this could easily be done with a tooth pick and some paper with a name on it. cuteness.

and then after dinner tell people they have to eat their potato because it's wasteful if they don't and it's what they did at the first thanksgiving dinner(which is not true, but said with confidence, surely 3 out of 4 guests will believe you). or just tell them it's dessert. your guests will LOVE YOU. as will their intestines when the take a numero dos later in the middle of the night because of all that roughage.

i should stop at this point. i just grossed my own self out on that one. anywho...can't wait to see how you guys are decorating your digs for fall.

love those acorns too! so fun. i really want to find some acorns now. except i dont think we have acorns around here. hmm...
no fall day-korr here yet. its still way too hot to even think about busting out the pumpkins and leaf bunting. we are still having 90 degree days.
p.s. when i have a bunch of extra potatoes laying around I make up Pioneer Woman's crash hot potatoes. yummm...try them. you wont regret it!

  6. How has nobody commented on that last paragraph?!? Hopefully I just can't see them because they're still waiting to be moderated. Cause that sentence made me laugh out loud, read it out loud to my husband and then laugh really hard again. That was some funny stuff like only you could write.
And your house looks cute. :)

  9. Cute!! Just a word on the acorns...I did that last year, and after about a week or so these disgusting tiny gurb things crawled out of the acorns and were all over my table. I seriously almost lost it! Maybe you have better acorns than we do in PA, I hope so, but just a warning! I mentioned it to another blogger and SHE said that you can pop the acorns in the freezer for an hour or two before you use them in your decor and it would kill any...you know...hitchhikers. Ugh...the memory makes me gag.

  11. The odd thing is, I totally have those plant sticker thingies. Bought them like a year ago for my garden that never came to fruition. FYI- I've pinned a few of your grand ideas. Thanks for sharing.

  12. I like your white pumpkins--I grew some so I don't need to make them. And warty pumpkins--I am SO fond of them.

  14. Cuteness with the strung up leaves! I love the acorns too. I tried to wash mine one time, yeah, they rotted. Now I use fake. I also have a giant Ball jar...stole it from my mom. She doesn't know it cause she has so much crap she can't keep track of all of it. :)

  15. Yep, what Bekah said about the acorn residents! EW. An experience I do not wish to repeat.

My mom has always been "Ma" to me. She never liked it 'cuz it doesn't denote respect or something.

Then last week she brought me a crate of Ball jars. VINTAGE BALL JARS. An assortment of colors, sizes, designs... I darn-near fainted dead away.

And so now she shall be called Mother. She's earned it.

  21. I love Fall! Your decorations are inspiring. I really should do something -anything- to make my home more Fall-y. And about the potatoes...heehee!

  22. Another note on the freezer trick... A nice lady at Container Store JUST told me this.... You should put pretty much all your food like your flour, cereal, boxes of grits, oatmeal ... In the freezer right from the store. Just a few hours in there and all bugs killed! And yes, there are nasty bugs in your food! She had dumped out a bunch of cereal on her granddaughters highchair tray and bugs were in it! Never again after the freezer trick. I had no idea!?!

How's Penelope doing on her sleeping? I had a baby a week or so after you, and we JUST nixed the 4am feeding. Praise GOD!!!

  26. I have tears rolling down my face from the numero dos/potato suggestion. The hubs thought that I read something truly disturbing, and was torn between his Star Trek and comforting me. :o) I just found your blog, and as a preacher's wife, I must say how refreshing it is to see others spreading the "gospital" while throwing in a few cuss words for good measure!
