anyway, i saw this online somewhere a couple of months ago and thought i'd give it a try. it works!
and is delish.
and is cheaper.
and you won't die from eating it.
so a trifecta of goodness is in effect, players.
so here's what you need:
1/2tbsp olive oil
1/4 cup popcorn kernals
1/4 tsp salt
sprinkle of garlic
paper bag
mix the kernals in the oil and then place in bag
sprinkle 1/4 tsp salt and a sprinkle of garlic into the bag(if you feel so inclined)
fold 3 smallish folds. make them tight
put in microwave for 2.5 minutes.
BAM...perfection.
and now enjoy these nesting measuring cups i got from urban outfitters sale section when i got lila's bedding. um, how could i say no to $10 for glass bird nesting cups?
also, riddle me this: why does lila put her shoes in places you would never look when you're on a mad rush to get out the door? you only find it while baking the next day. that will make a mother cuss.
and yes, i do love pyrex, actually.
and also, i am purposely not posting pics of my large self on this blog. i'm 3cm dialated, with 3 weeks to go. i'll go ahead and take my epidural now please and uhthankyou.

i've gotta try that. we love popcorn and i don't like weird ingredients.
ReplyDeletei too believe everything i read. its a problem.
i <3 pyrex too.
Oh what a great recipe! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI think I may have to try this. I've resorted to pan popped popcorn to get my fix ;). But then I have to CLEAN the pot... I like the idea of throwing away the bag afterward!
ReplyDeleteOK, this idea is just brilliant. I must try this immediately. And I LOVE your measuring cups. Too cute.
ReplyDeleteTrue story. I was walking down the popcorn aisle, to buy kernels for this very reason. And then I spied with my little eye orville has a "natural" popcorn. I didn't check the ingredients. Happens when three children are running up and down the aisles. Unkempt hair. Mismatching clothes. One of them may or may not have been wearing different colored crocs. Point is. The popcorn isn't that bad. Pretty good. And then I looked at the ingredients. ALL Natural except one word. I can't even pronounce it. For preservatives. Dang. Sneaky marketing scams.
ReplyDeleteIf I was still in KS I would come on over. And help you mop the kitchen floors. With a big ole salad. You know that place that swears it puts lady's in labor. And then you can do some squats while we watch a movie. Yeah it probably won't work. But it = clean house. Good dinner. And nice work out.
ps. I would totally never ever ever take my children out of the house, in the condition those three children were. Never.
(but sometimes I do).
great recipe!! I still like to cook it on the stove. I have been using coconut oil - healthy!! just enough to dampen the bottom of your pot, and popcorn to cover the bottom. cover and cook over med heat. yum. You can even use a little melted real butter and garlic salt or powder. again - yum.
ReplyDeletebtw - hope that chickie comes soon. :) love, n
I will have to try that popcorn! I just bought 40 brown papers bags for $1 so I must put them to use. That's after we finish the box of popcorn we just bought from Costco :).
ReplyDelete3 cm dilated?...You're there! May everything go smoothly!
Have I said that 3 is a whole new ballgame? Ya...can you tell that I'm still adjusting and my baby just turned 1 and totally mobile?!
I make mine sans oil, just air pop those suckers in the buff! When they're done I toss it with some butter spray, cinnamon and Stevia...it keeps my sweet tooth occupied.
ReplyDeleteYUM! Can't wait to try this! You CRACK me UP, btw. :)
ReplyDeletesaw this somewhere a while back and we make it all the time. i love mixing up the toppings...cinnamon sugar...yum!
ReplyDeleteMy Lila hides her shoes, too and I had just such a "mad-rush-to-get-out-the-door-can't-find-her-shoes" experience the other day. Where were they? Tucked nicely in a nesting block in her toy cubby. Right where I didn't look.
ReplyDeleteOk can I just tell you you're fa-lippin BRILLIANT?! Im going to have to try this poppycorn you speak of.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the nesting cups. And I didnt realize you were 3 weeks away from your due date. Would you sit down and cross your legs for heavens sake?!
Praying the best for you and the coming of this new little Nato:)
xo,
Sarah
OK, just for that I am going to mail you a JUMBO box of microwave pop corn from the dollar store. Weird AND Expired! Come back from the dark side.... :)
ReplyDeleteWe got rid of the microwave since some guy died from standing in front of it too many times, or eating the chemicals that leaked out of his hot plastic dishes, idk, don't check my sources, either. An air popper is lots of fun for the kiddos. And yay on the 3cm! That's a pretty big deal. Maybe you'll be 7cm by your next appointment. It could happen. If you straddle the microwave... jk...
ReplyDeleteI have to know, will it work with melted butter. Um yeah, cuz we like to make everything a little less healthy around here and such!
ReplyDeletewow...who would've thunk it: do it yourself microwavable popcorn. Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteand good luck with the baby baking!
That is amazing! I have a bag of popcorn that someone gave me and I was too afraid to try to figure out how to cook it the old fashioned way. I am buying paper bags next time I'm at the store. Yay!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention that I LOVE those measuring cups... I have a thing for birds. But only fake birds. I'm really, truly afraid of live birds. Maybe I should blog about that one day :p
ReplyDeleteno way! we make our own opocorn too but always make it in a pot on the stove. i actually just bought seeds to grown our own popcorn, how cool is that?! i guess you can place the whole cob in the microwave and it pops...maybe. either way it will be fun growing it.
ReplyDeletelove the nesting bird cups and love pyrex. :O( you are no fun with the no preggo pics. I am sure you have some for "memory" sake just not for our memory. I'll forgive you cause I like you.
ReplyDeleteThat is brilliance. I love it! And those measuring cups. And yay baby! Can't wait.
ReplyDeleteOh my! You totally could get an epidural at 3! It's so close! So excited!! Please post a picture of ur sweet self!
ReplyDeleteYUM!! I will be popping some in the near future!
ReplyDeleteAnd those measuring cups are adorable!
Yes, why didn't you by chance look in the potholder drawer for her boot? Haha. I also did a post on my blog today about making homemade popcorn! I'll never go back to the scary bags. ;)
ReplyDelete-Amy
make your own microwave popcorn? GENIUS!!! I Love it & will be totally making some tonight!!! Thank you! And, post a picture!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the popcorn tip. It works great (except that on my microwave the perfect amount of time is 2.05).
ReplyDeleteConfession, I don't like popcorn. There you go.
ReplyDeleteBut, in other news, I don't have anything to do for the next week. Want me to come over and follow you around with rags for when your water breaks? No...? Too far?
"Keep movin people, nothin to see here! Just a lady who peed herself."
xo
finding shoes, make a momma cuss, <3 pyrex, and epidural now....crackin me up as per usual.
ReplyDeleteWhat the WHAT...you can make your own popcorn in a paper bag?!? You've been holding out on us girl. So tryin' this!
ReplyDeletei think i'll go try this right about...now. thanks for the idea!
ReplyDelete3 cm? any day now! : ) i am so glad you posted this because i just tried to tell the husband about this the other night, don't think he quite believed me...and then i couldn't find it anywhere online! thanks! : )
ReplyDeleteThe checker at whole foods told me this and I thought she was crazy! Went home and tried it and LOVE it! Try it with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese...pretty tasty!
ReplyDeleteOoohhh what a great idea. My kids would LOVE this.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been checked yet. I have my 38 week appointment tomorrow. Maybe I'll let her.
wow! that's a great idea. and i love your measuring spoons. and i love how clean your microwave is.
ReplyDeletewhat!? sounds too easy!
ReplyDeletei am gonna try it.
ok, i guess i believe you already.
come out little baby!
why cant blogger be like facebook and just have a *like* button?
ReplyDeletei just pressed it, fyi.
Great idea on the popcorn! You're brilliant. I'm still using your dish-washing detergent idea and loving it. P.S. I love Pyrex, too! I'm constantly collecting vintage Pyrex. You know, the two contrasted colors that is uber-70's style. Now I'm off to Google that Pyrex oven mitt. Wish me luck.
ReplyDeleteJami, you actually remember correctly. The ingredient is diacetyl. And it causes bronchiolitis obliterans - permanent, non-reversible lung damage. My brother-in-law's sister is on an lung transplant list because of this. Eating the popcorn isn't the problem, it is inhaling the "butter" vapors. She used to work for Blockbuster and popped 20-30 bags of popcorn per day in an enclosed office for years. Because of this, we no longer buy microwave popcorn - we get the kernels and pop with our whirly pop.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I LOVE those sweet birdie cups. Second, that popcorn sounds amazing. Now I'm going to have to try it. :)
ReplyDeleteMy younger two always got wicked sick on microwave popcorn--just made them SO ill. We got a regular popcorn popper and use it all the time, but this looks like a great trick!
ReplyDelete1. I am totally doing the microwave popcorn thingy! Awesome!
ReplyDelete2. I almost bought those nesting measuring cups at U.O a few weeks ago! Instead I bought the wire letters...hubby made me choose.
3. I was dialated to 3 cm with my daughter three weeks out too! Ummmm...I was afraid she was going to fall out! I'm pretty sure I saw her wave a few times. And sadly, I made it all three weeks to the dismay of my midwives.
Here's hoping you go early!
I just saw this recently too! We need to try it cause I decided microwave popcorn is the devil so we've been making it on the stove. It is DELISH and my hubby has gotten really good at making it {for me} ;) but I would like this cleaner/less hassle method as I'm the one who has to do the dishes. :-P
ReplyDeletePLEASE show an updated pic - I'd love to see you in your wedding attire gloriousness. ;)
you just made me the coolest mom! delish and no kernels left...and i didn't burn the popcorn:) thanks again, im going to be linking back here, hope you don't mind:)
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you posted about the measuring cups cause to be honest, it's all I could focus on in this post cause they are so bleepin' cute! Um, did someone say popcorn? Yes please!
ReplyDeleteyour healthy roundabout ways put me shame as i am popping tender white orville right now..
ReplyDeletethis looks soo easy
ReplyDeletei lowve EASY
Awesome. I wonder if it can become kettle corn if you add a little sugar to the bag. I do stovetop but I like the lack of dishes here fo sho!! And re: your comment, Niels' fam is all in Denmark and we go there all the time. He's a little immigrant. Danielle asked me that too a while back, so I finally tagged all my posts recently and now I have Denmark and Niels tags which explain things....figured I should organize the blog a little since i have more than 6 readers now.
ReplyDeletemy son used to put his hot wheels in our shoes. that always made me want to cuss.
ReplyDeleteoh heck yes.
ReplyDeletesweet popcorn heaven.
loving your birdie cups-fancy:)
ok jami i confess... this is my first comment on your blog but i've been following your posts for the last month or so :S.. . i enjoy all your ideas and think your house is super cute!
ReplyDeletei freaking love the measuring cups! and the spoons for that matter. i have this new fear of the ole microwave so i just pop it the old fashioned way and it's fabulouso. it's likely that the microwave is no safer than the cell phone glued to my ear often, but wherever i can cut the risk, you know? those extra 5 minutes of life will be joyous i'm sure. :)
ReplyDeleteSeriously - wow! This is so good!
ReplyDeleteI do believe I will start requesting the gift fairy to deliver me a set of those ADORABLE nesting measuring cups. C to the U to the T to the E!
ReplyDeleteokay funniest story ever. My hubby a popcorn obsession lately. never really thought about what they put in popcorn until you mentioned it! whoops. So i tell the hubby about this great idea you have. I say maybe it will save us money we should try it. notice I said try it. not that i doubt your skillz but who knows it may not work for us. So he jumps on board and says yeah that's sounds like a good idea.
ReplyDeleteokay so today I get home and find a 12 and 1/2 pound jug of popcorn kernels. yeah so much for trying.. this better work and better be good girl! :)
such a great idea! and i love your measuring cups!
ReplyDeleteI did this, and then the bag caught on fire. Which almost caught the microwave on fire. So, yeah, I'm going to stick with an electric popcorn maker from now on. I think it will be worth the money. :)
ReplyDeleteheather! that is wierd...we do this atleadst twice a week and that has never ever happened! omg...that would freak me out...
ReplyDelete
