you know when you have cabinets made of cheap MDF garage shelving and you paint them to look like real wood? oh wait, is that just me? from afar, my kitchen looks cute...but when you get up close, these cabinets are pretty digusto. and they fall of the hinges randomly. especially when guests use them. embarrassing? no, surely not for me.
check out the chipped paint on every handle. mmmm. and open the cabinet--surprise! these aren't wood at all. funny. but we never had the dolla dolla bills to re-do the kitchen. so what does a girl do? she paints them to look like cherry wood and throws up a ceiling tile back splash because it's cheaper than tile. which i still love--but after taking the ceiling tiles down, it's in too bad of shape to put back up. tear. instead, we're doing real, genuine tile! stone subway tile to be exact. glorious.
also, may i mention that i faux painted my counter tops to look like granite. they were pretty cool for a while, but are starting to chip and lose their awesomeness.
and of course, there is always a sacrifice to gutting a kitchen. everything is everywhere. who knew i had so much in my cabinets--and the cabinets you see are all i have. i pack them well. resourceful or pack rattish? don't judge me.
i will post some pics soon of the new kitchen when nato gets to gettin'. he has a real job too, so as to pay for the new kitchen. but here is a teaser: i have painted the entire kitchen in chalkboard paint that i made myself. we'll see if it works.
p.s. layne still hates school and still throws a fit each time entering the classroom. no other child freaks out. blaaaa!
